Thunders & Bolan

We were with friends in Epping Forest over the long weekend for an annual art club which Belle is a member of. The fabulous Mr Tony B allowed us to try on some of his most wonderful things, including Marc Bolan's top hat and Johnny Thunders' guitar strap and waistcoat. We rule, for real.

MY TSUNAMI OF EUPHORIA
DOMINIC THACKRAY — SELECTED WORK 1995–2012

The kind folk at Exitstencil Press are publishing a book of my work next month. I don't mean to get carried away but it's true to say that it's very pretty. Penny Rimbaud and Lech Kowalski have kindly written the foreword and afterword. The first edition is limited to just 300 copies, hand-stamped and numbered.

ISBN 978-0-946381-03-6
64+4pp on 140/300gsm uncoated Cyclus Offset with tracing paper fly-leaves
138mm wide by 216mm deep, full colour throughout
RRP £12.50 but available for the mates' rate of £10 here until September

Beautiful, witty and gently subversive, I love it
Jim Fields [End of the Century]

Cool and exciting and, most importantly, vibrant with ideas and images that could sit happily in any gallery
Richard Jobson [The Skids, 16 Years of Alcohol]

Dominic made Raindance cool by having a clue and bringing all these interesting people together. His work is truly delightful. It almost makes me forget how much I loathe all things British
Steve Grasse [Bikini Bandits, Evil Empire]

Smart, stylish and fabulous. I hope Dominic continues to follow his darkest instincts to create this shimmering thing he does
Suzanne Ballantyne [Raindance Film Festival]

I ♥ the postman, part VI

Beautiful things that arrive in the mail continued: today's object of unparalleled beauty is the current issue of Ambit (ably demonstrated by my unpaid assistant, the lovely Miss Belle Thackray). Thanks chaps.

Tommy Steele in Hanging in the Rain

Recently re-found in the attic, this I think was the first typography project I ever did at the LCP and dates from around autumn 1995. It was all done by hand (and it looks it) with the aid of tippex and photocopier. With all thanks to my auld china plate Russell and the dead poet Paul Valéry for help with the copy.

Some pics from Travis's Lomo

Travis very kindly sent these through this morning, from Steve Jelbert's barbeque a couple of weeks ago. The Lomo makes everything look kind of interesting doesn't it, although I had no idea how peculiar-looking I was.

Pourquoi Es-Tu Devenue Si Raisonnable?

Le Cadeau de Mariage.

Tu ne m'avais jamais dit ça
Toujours le dernier à savoir
Je dois deviner chaque jour comment tu te sens
Tu n'as jamais rien à me dire
T'aurais du parler
Je ne comprends pas
Pourquoi tu n'as rien dit

Comment as-tu pu me faire ça?
Comment as-tu pu me faire ça?
Comment as-tu pu me faire ça?
Comment as-tu pu me faire ça?

Tree of Life

Basically don't go and see it. I think there's probably a really quite good 80 minute film buried up to its nostrils in this 160 minute septic sludge, but you will never find it. And I think that the older kid may have had a troubled childhood but I'll never be completely sure because Terrence Malick just didn't make it clear enough. This thing won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and I'm curious if Cannes juries feel like there's a requirement to outdo each other on making fatuous, facetious choices on a twelve-monthly basis. The 2020 winner is likely to be a week long and shot on digital cow poo.
